Data Cleanup

Having clean and organized data is vital to any organization who wants a clear view of their spend. Without it, procurement teams have no idea what their spend is on for particular category or what it is with a particular supplier. The old adage comes to mind “You don’t know what you don’t know, until you know it.” This is called the Dunning-Kruger Effect, coined by two Cornell University psychologists, David Dunning and Justin Kruger back in 1999. Essentially, The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where people wrongly overestimate their knowledge of a particular subject and lack of self-awareness prevents them from accurately assessing the subject at hand.

When it comes to printer cartridge supply spend, often we see spend reports from customers that was generated by their existing supplier – and they are riddled nomenclature inconsistencies making it very difficult to sort and filter and see just what the spend actually is by SKU. At QIS we find this an unacceptable practice, so during the savings assessment process we provide customers with a cleaned-up spend report, showing them how we can reduce the number of SKUs being ordered by their internal stakeholders - allowing us to leverage their spend and drive costs down.

Tail spend (also known as maverick spend, rogue spend, and dark purchasing) occurs when an employee, perhaps with the best of intentions, goes outside the normal process of procurement to acquire needed items and services.
